27 SepAboriginal Culture Immersion Day
St Johns College hosted an Aboriginal Culture Immersion Day on Tuesday for all students in Years 7-9 and all Aboriginal students across Year 7-11. At the morning Assembly “Milan Dhiiyaan” presented traditional dance and stories from the local tribes in the Central West. The group is led by Wiradjuri/Wailwaan songwoman and senior cultural educator Nyimirr (Fleur Magick Dennis) and Wailwaan/Yuin songman and senior cultural educator Millmullian (Laurance Magick Dennis) Students then had the opportunity to experience a number of activities throughout the day including dot painting, traditional foods and participate in different traditional Indigenous Games. Students certainly enjoyed the experiences. Congratulations to Aboriginal Education Worker Mrs Karen Andriske, Aboriginal Pathways Adviser Mr Matt O’ Dea, Miss Nikki McWhirter and the numerous staff members who willingly helped with the various events.
